Sunshine Blogger Award

In which I began saying ‘in which’ to follow Hannah Heath’s example. I woke up one morning, looked at twitter and had my heart warmed by a blog post that told me I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award. As it was the day I was heading back to college, I decided I would have to get to it at a later date. Uh...and now I'm writing it the second day of being back. Does this make sense? Maybe not, but homework hasn't really happened yet as Wednesdays are my easy days. But I couldn't wait to get to this!

I also noticed that Hannah uses Dragon Dictation for blog posts, so I decided I would have to give it a try as well. And, honestly, I feel straight out of Star Trek or some other science fiction movie. If y’all have never heard of Dragon Dictation you should go try it out because it’s really fun. I’m actually using it right now and I’m still trying to get used to all the features, so it’s interesting and kind of difficult but it’s really cool.

Sunshine Blogger Award || Water & Pen            Anyway, this post is to address the Sunshine Blogger Award, in which I act all sunshiney. Just kidding, I think I’m actually supposed to give seven random facts about myself. I’m really horrible at coming up with random facts about myself, but we’ll give this a try.

Thank you so much, Hannah, for nominating me for this award! I am feeling the sunshine. :D

            1. Okay, first fact about me… I am obsessed with drinking water. I think it all started when I went to camp in Texas in seventh grade and I bought my first Nalgene water bottle. I still have it actually, it’s purple and has a white eagle and white words. And, once in a while, I still drink out of it. But after Texas we moved to Colorado and I lived there for four years. And when you’re in Colorado, it’s pretty much mandatory that you would take excursions into the mountains. And, when you’re in such a high-altitude, you need to drink lots of water. Or you might die.

            2. I guess I’ll use one of my most commonly used facts (when I have to come up with random facts about myself) – I have moved 12 times in my life, been to 12 different schools, and lived in 12 different houses. If you want to know why, I guess you’ll just have to read more of my blog posts. ;)

            3. I love old things, you know? Like old Regency dresses, jazz music from the 20s, the idea of masquerade balls and dancing the night away… Typewriters, chipped flowery teacups, castles--buildings that speak of another age and tell stories with each brick laid. Classics from the 1800s, photographs that tell of a simpler time, and faded curtains that have been passed on from generation to generation. I always thought that I was born in the wrong age. But I do know and finally recognize that Jesus was placed me in this time to do His good work and spread His love – I know I’m meant to write and make a difference in that way, and perhaps if I was born at an earlier time that wouldn’t have been as possible.

            4. Hmm. Wow! I need four more facts. Ooh! I like the center of food. The sounds really weird, but I promise it isn’t. What I mean is, when you make brownies there’s always a crispier part and there’s a gooier part. I like the gooier part. And, the gooier part is always in the middle. The exact middle. This also goes for pizza, bread, cookies, basically almost everything is the best at the center except fruit where there are seeds and pits and all types of stuff you would not want to eat. (It’s actually a myth that watermelon seeds, if swallowed, grow watermelons in your stomach. Thank God).

            5. Here’s one. I am an INFJ. Yup.

            6. I want to be a missionary, I’m not sure where yet, but I am excited. Okay, it’s not that I want it, which I do, but I’m called to be a missionary and if God calls you do something you should not try to get out of that. I’m also called to be a writer.

            7. This last one has to be good. I just had it... Oh no! I forgot. Let me think…as if you can’t let me think…because I’m the only one in my room…um…

Oh! I just remembered. It was on how I became a writer. So, of course growing up I always enjoyed reading books and having books read to me. And, when I was in about first grade we had something called the Creative Journal or maybe more like a Writer’s Journal? I can’t remember the exact name of it, but it was where we would write little stories in whatever our handwriting was called (more like chicken scratch) and we would illustrate little pictures to go with the stories. I was horrible at both, but it was my favorite part of the day. Writer’s corner? No, that doesn’t sound right (where did that come from??) Oh well.

Anyway, I didn’t really do much with that, but I did enjoy it and I always loved to read – I devoured books from the library (not literally of course but you know what I mean). When I was a freshman I took a break from two years of homeschooling and I decided to go to public school for a year… And that was, in a way, a mistake at the time (that’s what I always called it). I was very shy and quiet and I didn’t just put myself out there and make friends. So, during lunch I would just hide in the library and read and write and that’s how I got started with my love of writing. I like to say that God brings beauty from ashes because it’s true, and He has certainly done that throughout my entire life. So I’m grateful.

Alas, that is the end. Here are the rules:

1.      Thank the blogger who nominated you for the award
2.      Display the banner/sticker/logo on your blog.
3.      Share 7 facts or things about yourself.
4.      Nominate 5 bloggers that you admire and inform nominees by commenting on their blog.

My nominees are as follows:

1.      Wendy Greene over at The Jumping Bean (her blog is so aesthetically pleasing it almost hurts. Just kidding, it doesn’t hurt. But it sure is pretty to look at.)

2.      Annie Hawthorne at Curious Wren (her pictures…oh man. They are beautiful.)

3.      Brianna da Silva at StoryPort (what a cool title…and it all looks so high tech in such a simple, efficient way.)

4.      Jameson C. Smith at Lovely Whatsoevers (I love her story snippets!)

5.      Anastasia Cross at Inkspot (Ana is just really cool and so is her blog so yeah. We have a special bond of ball pits and college and beta-reader stuff)

  1. Great post, Rachel! I'm so glad you joined in. The voice software is weird, right? It takes a while to get the hang of. It makes me feel both awkward and extremely sci-fi. =)
High five for being a fellow-INFJ and lover of old things. I'm personally a fan of classic novels and black and white movies. Go Cary Grant! =) Anyway, super fun post. It put a huge smile on my face.

    1. Hi, Hannah! It is weird! I remember I used it when I first got my laptop because it came automatically downloaded but then it got confusing and I turned it off. I feel like it's such a good idea, though, to write blog posts with it because it does enforce more of a conversational tone.

Yay! Always excited to find others like me. Yes--classic novels (especially when they're old or first editions are amazing). At my university, the library has a collection of Austen novels from the late 1800s. I fell in love when I saw them. Cary Grant is great. I also love Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly when they star together.

It was fun! Thanks again! :)
